Netball lessons with Moutere!

Image
This term our learners have been given an awesome opportunity to learn a variety of netball skills with the lovely ladies from Howick Netball.  At the beginning of our lessons we'll be doing a quick warm up. Then building our physical capabilities in catching and passing a netball. At the end of each session the learners will play a game to put their new skills into practice. They've been put into groups to collaborate with their peers in getting the most goals.

Happy Diwali

Today our learners had the opportunity to wear their traditional Indian outfits in celebration of Diwali this weekend.   We are so happy to see that our learners came to school wearing their outfits proudly, and the plethora of colours it brung to the habitat. Happy Diwali!

Stardome trip

As part of our iExplore this term, we had the chance to visit the Stardome in Week 10 of Term 3. Moutere learners had been learning about planets, Apollo 11, the moon landing and other areas of interest as well. We first spent time in the Space Room where the instructor gave us lots of information about the missions to the moon and Mars as well as learning about the planets. We then completed a quiz while we explored the displays in the Space Gallery. Our trip ended with a visit to the planetarium where we got to have a night sky tour as well as watch a movie.

Learner Led Conferences

Image
Last week on Thursday our school finished at 12.30pm. All parents of learners had to book in a 10 minute interview time with a learning coach. Learners had to be present to talk and reflect on their learning over the last two terms so far. In preparation for this Moutere learners had a written task that they had to write up first and then publish to present. Thank you to all the parents that were able to make their appointment times and all our amazing learners who shared during the evening. Here are some photos from learner led conferences with the awesome learning coaches in Moutere.

iExperience: Wearable Arts

Image
This term the learners have been building their capabilities in technology. They've managed to collaborate amongst their teams in creating an unconventional wearable art piece of art. We had a variety of provocations displayed during our lessons and the students managed to come up with amazing pieces.

Busy in Week 7

Image
For the last few weeks learners in Moutere have been learning and practicing their speeches. Sara and Declan were 2 of our learners picked to compete in the OrmPS speech finals this week, where they did really well, nerves and all! Some of the Blue Group learners had a colouring competition running in Week 7 to raise awareness and the importance of Conservation. Linda, Beckham and Quintus led and managed this project as they wanted learners to think about how we can change and better our environment. The prizes were pumpkin seeds.

Swimming in Moutere

Image
This term our Year 4s that didn't swim in Term 2 have swimming on Wednesday mornings. We are divided into two groups. The first group swims at 10am and the second group (along with 10 learners from Maunga) swim at 10.30am. Every morning, a community bus comes to pick us up and take us to the Otara Leisure Centre where the swimming pools are. All learners are placed into three groups according to their swimming capabilities. Each group has a swimming instructor that helps to teach us skills in the pool. Some things we have learned so far are: blowing bubbles, floating on our front and back, kicking with a board and lots of other things.  It is heaps of fun and we are so lucky to have these free swimming lessons every week. We can't wait to go swimming again next week. Yay!!
